About us
Teen mental health is in crisis. One in five adolescents need intensive treatment for anxiety or depression, but less than 20% get the care they need. The system is breaking: hospitals are overwhelmed with psychiatric admissions, while emergency departments become holding spaces for teens who need intensive care, not hospitalization.
At Kin Therapy, we're rebuilding intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) from the ground up. Our virtual intensive treatment program delivers 9 hours of weekly care through live therapy, group sessions, and AI-guided exercises. We make intensive treatment accessible, affordable (50% less than traditional IOPs), and flexible enough to work around school schedules.
The role
We're looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead our AI initiatives and help revolutionize teen mental health care delivery. You'll work at the intersection of clinical care and artificial intelligence, building systems that augment and enhance our therapists' capabilities while making treatment more personalized and effective.
Key responsibilities
• Design and implement ML systems to customize treatment plans using patient data and clinical insights
• Develop and deploy LLM-powered tools to automate administrative tasks, allowing our clinicians to focus more on patient care
• Create intelligent systems for monitoring patient progress and early risk detection
• Build AI-guided therapeutic exercise platforms that complement live sessions
• Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure AI solutions align with therapeutic best practices
• Lead the technical architecture for our AI/ML infrastructure
• Mentor junior engineers and shape our AI development practices
Required qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in machine learning engineering, with at least 2 years focusing on LLMs
• Strong experience with Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, and modern ML infrastructure
• Deep understanding of transformer architectures and LLM fine-tuning techniques
• Experience with ML ops and production deployment of ML systems
• Track record of building privacy-preserving ML systems in healthcare or similar sensitive domains
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field (Master's preferred)
Preferred qualifications
• Experience with healthcare data or mental health applications
• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and healthcare data security
• Familiarity with clinical workflows and healthcare systems
• Experience with RAG systems
• Background in natural language processing and conversation modeling
